…Facing Your Giants…
Max Lucado. He is one of my favourite writers. He is so brilliant in making stories. Elaborating parables from the Bible. Recreating the situation so his readers could feel the important meaning of the story. Making it simple to digest, while at same time emphasizing the crucial point. In a brilliant way!
I was moved to qoute a part of the story about David and Goliath. Lucado elaborates this story, which can be found in the Bible, in his book Facing Your Giants. That was at that time, when David came to deliver food to his elder brothers. They were in a battle. But they were not fighting at that moment. Nobody was. The army of Israel, they gathered and waited. Mocked by this giant called Goliath. This giant, he challenged if anyone of them would have a one on one combat with him. No one replied him. Nobody would dare to fight him.
For normal people, that was undoubtedly a wise thing to do. Why should I fight this giant? In fact, he was not only a giant, but also the giant who came from the tribe of the biggest giant for the time! His spear was tremendously large and heavy. His armor seemed unpenetrable. It was natural for everybody just to give up the fight.
But David, he was not a normal person in regards with the naturally accepted defintion about normal in a such situation. David did not make any comments about how big and strong the giant was. Instead, he spoke about how great his God was. And that his God would hand the giant to him. And David did defeated the giant. That is inspiring!
Keep our eyes on God. And never let our problems kill our faith. It is not easy to apply in our daily lives, I agree. But knowing that someone had succeeded in dong this, it could help to raise a little hope within ourselves. Strengthen our faith. Refuelling our courage. To stand and fight our giants.
Yes your giants are probably big, but God is much bigger than them.
